Courts Optical, a division of Courts St. Vincent Limited, has assisted numerous students across St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) by providing them with prescription glasses free of charge to aid their studies.

Forty-six students each received eyewear at a ceremony held on Thursday, 26 June at the Courts St. Vincent headquarters in Kingstown. This initiative is known as Our Brighter View.

Speaking at the ceremony, which was attended by the recipients, their parents, school representatives, and Courts SVG’s Acting Senior Manager Annmarie Degale, Marketing Officer at Unicomer (Courts St. Vincent Ltd.), Ms Lisa Veira said, “Our Brighter View is a corporate social responsibility initiative,” which “aims at delivering comprehensive eye care to young persons in vulnerable situations throughout the Caribbean.”

“The initiative provides quality eye examinations, durable frames, and the best lens technology. Our Brighter View caters for young persons between the ages of nine and 17,” Ms Veira added, stating, “If an individual in a vulnerable situation requires prescription lenses, they can be provided with them, and this will be handled on a case-by-case basis.”

The 46 recipients came from schools across various parts of the country, including the Grenadines.

Responding to the gesture from Courts, a parent from Canouan said:

“I am very grateful. This is a blessing to me because it came at a time when I was really down and it took some time, but good things take time.”

“So I’m really, really grateful. I know I speak for teachers, parents and everybody. I am really grateful for this and thank you all very much,” the parent added.

Meanwhile, Ms Veira noted that since the inception of Our Brighter View in 2019, over 9,600 pairs of glasses have been delivered free of charge to individuals and children throughout the region.

“And we’re talking about Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana, the OECS, and, as we drill down, St. Vincent.”

She emphasised: “Awareness and prevention remain critical components in the fight against blindness. As such, we continually stress the importance of frequent eye testing. Courts Optical maintains its dedication to the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, especially the most vulnerable, and continues to focus on accessible eye care.”

She also stated: “Nobody else on the island offers the option to purchase glasses on credit, provides a warranty on glasses, and offers free eye testing every single day at our optical department.”

Ms Veira stressed that even during the pandemic, the eruption of La Soufrière, and the devastation caused by hurricanes, “when all the company’s resources were stretched, the Unicomer Group strongly believed that quality eye care should be accessible to all.”

Under the Unicomer brand, Courts Optical is the largest and fastest-growing optical chain in the region and continues to bring value you can see to customers in the OECS and the wider Caribbean, she added.
