CaribWorldNews, BELMOPAN, Belize, Tues. Sept. 15, 2009: Belize Governor General, Sir Colville Young, says integration is crucial to Belize and the development of the CARICOM region as a whole.

Sir Colville made the remarks during an event held Saturday evening in Belmopan, the Belize capital to mark the celebrations of independence this month by seven nations, including Belize, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico.

The Belize GG insisted that each country has a crucial role to play in the integration movement and stressed that `we must recognize that within this integration process each country has specific needs and realities and it is the responsibility of each of our governments to address these issues.`

Sir Corville told the large gathering which in addition to the dipomats from the six other Central American countries included the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom and the Ambassador of Brazil, that `we must recognize that regional integration requires us to work closely with each other, to make sacrifices for the good of all the peoples of the region` to ensure our security; and to find common ground in confronting the challenges before us.`

`Together we are strong,` he added.

Belize celebrates its 28th anniversary of independence on Monday September 21 and activities to mark the occasion started since September 1 and will conclude on September 26th.
