CBC News Head Dead


CaribWorldNews, BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Mon. Oct. 5, 2009: Head of the news and current affairs section at the Barbados-based Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, Richard Cox, has died.

Cox, a veteran journalist, reportedly passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital over the weekend after a brief illness. He was 59. Cox joined the CBC in 2002 as one of its panelists for the program, `The Press Club.`

He later became a reporter before being appointed to head the news department.  Prior to CBC, he  spent many years at the Caribbean News Agency where he also worked as assistant manager in the wire service department.

`His sudden passing leaves us shaken and the profession [which is] without one of its stalwarts,` the Barbados Press Association said in a statement.

Cox is survived by his wife Joycelyn.
