The Southern Grenadines community of Union Island has been left in shock at the news that an elderly woman was raped during the late hours of December 15 into December 16.

The woman was reportedly sexually assaulted in her home by an intruder during the late hours of Sunday, December 15 into the early hours of December 16.

The incident has sent shock waves throughout the Southern Grenadine Island which is still recovering from the devastating impact of Hurricane Beryl which struck on July 1.

Up to press time, no arrests had been made.

Residents have told One News SVG that power supply remains an issue on the island, and many homes are still powered by generators.

The State-owned electricity company VINLEC has been restoring the primary and secondary electricity infrastructure which was completely destroyed by Hurricane Beryl.
