His Majesty’s Prisons has confirmed the resumption of its annual Christmas treat programme for inmates at the Kingstown facility, Belle Isle Correctional Facility, and the Female Prison. The initiative, which forms part of the department’s rehabilitation mandate, will run from December 15, 2025, to January 5, 2026.

During this period, inmates in good standing will be allowed to receive snacks and fast-food items from relatives and friends on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Approved items include meals from outlets such as Subway, KFC, and local roti vendors.

On Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, the programme expands to permit home cooked meals and non-alcoholic beverages between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Each inmate will be allowed one meal only, and all food must be delivered in disposable containers. Homemade drinks remain prohibited, and all items will undergo standard security checks.

Prison authorities have stressed that eligibility is conditionaland families must contact the department beforehand to confirm whether an inmate qualifies, as those who breach prison regulations will not benefit.

This year’s programme introduces notable changes compared to previous years. The duration has been extended, offering families more time to participate, while stricter rules on eligibility and packaging reflect a stronger emphasis on accountability and security.

Officials say the initiative continues to serve its dual purpose rewarding good behaviour and supporting the reintegration goals of the correctional system while ensuring fairness and safety across all facilities.
