The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) has launched the 2026 edition of its “World of Work” (WOW) Programme, a career-readiness initiative aimed at preparing final-year students for employment. The programme, now in its third year, targets students from the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies and the Division of Technical and Vocational Education.

Facilitated by the Centre for General and Continuing Education (CGCE), WOW offers workshops on communication, self-management, and professionalism, alongside a recruitment fair where students can pursue internships and job opportunities. Employers are invited to participate by contacting the CGCE.

At the launch event on January 23, Human Resource Manager at ACADO, Mrs. Annekah Kirby, delivered the first session titled “Navigating Work After College,” offering practical advice on interviews, workplace success, and career advancement. CGCE Programme Officer Ms. Shyon Joseph described WOW as a structured bridge between education and employment, while Deputy Director Mrs. Veronica Luke encouraged students to fully commit to the programme.

With unemployment in St. Vincent and the Grenadines last recorded at 25.8%, and youth unemployment likely higher due to limited entry-level opportunities and slow private sector expansion, the WOW Programme represents a timely intervention. By improving job-readiness among tertiary-level graduates, creating employer-student linkages through recruitment fairs, reducing transition friction between education and employment, and supporting national efforts to boost productivity and reduce dependency, the initiative directly addresses one of the country’s most pressing workforce challenges.

The WOW Programme forms part of SVGCC’s broader effort to produce career-ready graduates. It reflects growing national interest in youth employment and the need for structured transition support as students move from academic settings into the workforce.
