Opposition members were sworn into Parliament during a sitting of the House of Assembly this morning.
Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, the Member of Parliament for North Central Windward, first took the Oath of Declaration, affirming that he is duly qualified to be elected to the House of Assembly in accordance with the Representation of the People Act.
Dr. Gonsalves was appointed Opposition Leader on December 1, 2025, by the Governor-General in accordance with the Constitution. However, in order to officially serve in Parliament, he was required to take the parliamentary oaths.

He then took the Oath of Allegiance, swearing to be faithful to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, to uphold and defend the Constitution and laws of the country, and to conscientiously and impartially discharge his responsibilities to the people.
Opposition Senator Carlos James was next sworn in. He took the Oath of Declaration, confirming his qualification to be appointed a member of the House of Assembly, followed by the Oath of Allegiance, pledging loyalty to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and commitment to uphold the Constitution and laws of the state.
Opposition Senator Kisal Peters also took both oaths. In her declaration, she affirmed her qualification for appointment to the House of Assembly, and in the Oath of Allegiance, she pledged to faithfully serve the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines while upholding the nation’s Constitution and laws.
