The Government has begun development of the Overland Water Supply System. The $23 million groundwater-based project is designed to provide reliable water to climate-vulnerable communities in northeast St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday announced the initiative during the 2026 Budget Address on February 9th. He said the project marks a deliberate shift away from fragile surface water systems toward resilient, climate-proof groundwater sources.

“We are developing a well field at Overland, equipped with modern pumps and disinfection facilities, to deliver safe and reliable potable water,” Dr. Friday said. He added that two new concrete reservoirs, including a 1,073-cubic-metre tank at Overland powered by solar photovoltaic systems, will reduce operating costs and improve reliability.

The CWSA is also building a 1.2-kilometre transmission line and nearly 10 kilometres of distribution pipelines to extend service to Sandy Bay, Point Village, and Owia. A modern administration facility will enable real-time monitoring and data-driven management, ensuring continuity of supply during disruptions.

Beyond Overland, the government is advancing groundwater exploration on the mainland and desalination initiatives in the Grenadines, strengthening water security across the country.
