Four killed, four hospitalized after Green Hill mass shooting

Four people were killed and four others were hospitalised after gunmen opened fire in the Central Kingstown community of Green Hill late Friday night, in what is one of the deadliest shootings to rock St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). 

Assistant Commissioner of Police Brenton Smith confirmed the deaths during an early morning interview at the crime scene, where investigators were continuing to gather evidence.

“It appears that four persons are killed as a result of a shooting incident in the Green Hill area. This is not too far from the hard court,” Smith said.

He confirmed that three males and one female died in the attack.

Police said the report was received at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, September 25, prompting officers to respond to the scene.

Smith also confirmed that four people were taken to hospital suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds sustained during the incident.

“This is still an active investigation and members of the Crime Investigation Unit are actually processing the scene,” he said, noting that investigators were still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

Preliminary reports indicate that gunmen arrived in a vehicle and opened fire on a group of people gathered near a shop in the Green Hill community. Several persons reportedly attempted to flee as shots rang out, but multiple people were struck.

Contrary to earlier reports circulating on social media, no student of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College is among those who died, according to information available to One News SVG.

The identities of the deceased and injured had not been officially released by police up to the time of publication, and no arrests had been announced.

Although there has been public speculation that the shooting may be linked to ongoing gang activity, police have not confirmed a motive, and One News SVG has not independently verified those claims.

The latest bloodshed comes just over two months after three people were shot and killed opposite the Police Barracks in Kingstown on July 17, further fuelling concern over the recent escalation in violent crime across the country.

The Friday, September 25, 2026 mass shooting in Green Hill is also the second deadliest mass shooting incident on record in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). On July 19, 2023, five were killed in the country’s deadliest mass shooting which took place about 8:00 pm in the Harbour Club area of Upper Bay Street, Kingstown. Four persons had died on the spot, one died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, while one other person was hospitalized following the incident.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigations Department or the nearest police station.
