Some Caribbean leaders have begun publicly congratulating Donald J. Trump on his historic reelection to the White House.
Mr. Trump, 78, a businessman turned politician comfortably exceeded Mrs. Kamala Harris, 60, the current Vice President of the United States in both the Electoral College and the popular vote, based on the preliminary results of the November 5 U.S Presidential Election so far.
Congratulations came from Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who said on his official Facebook page:
“I extend heartfelt congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump on his victory in Tuesday’s election in the United States. Guyana looks forward to working closely with the incoming administration to further strengthen the already robust ties between our two nations”.
Congratulations were also extended to Mr. Trump by St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Prime Minister – Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs official Facebook page posted Thursday that Dr. Gonsalves said:
“The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines congratulates President-Elect Donald J. Trump on his election as the 47th President of the United States of America. The election result is a testament to the hard-won American values of robust debate, open democracy, self-determination and the relentless drive to craft a more perfect union.”
“The Government and People of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have a long history of close ties and warm relations with the United States of America. We look forward to building upon those historic ties in our traditional atmosphere of openness and mutual respect, for the benefit of both our countries and the shared prosperity of our peoples.”
“We are also confident that we will strengthen our engagement through regional, hemispheric and multilateral bodies, like the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the United Nations. The global challenges of peace, prosperity, sustainable development and climate change, among others, require the active participation and leadership of the United States of America.”
“Please accept the continued assurances of our highest consideration, and best wishes for a successful term in office,” the post further stated.
President-Elect Trump is now the 47th president of the United States of America, having been elected the 45th president of the country in 2016.
He will be sworn in on January 20, after a two-month transition period.
