The Courts Bishop’s College Fusion and Starlift Steel Orchestra emerged victorious at the 2026 VINLEC Junior Panorama Competition on Sunday evening (June 28) as young pannists and community musicians thrilled audiences at Independence Park in Kingstown under the theme, “Pan Mus Play: Family Circle”.

In the School Bands category, Courts Bishop’s College Fusion secured the championship title with 215 points for its rendition of Dance with Me Again by Winston Soso.

St Mary’s RC School placed second with 208.5 points after performing I Want Soca by Beckett, while C.W. Prescott Primary School finished third on 192 points with its interpretation of Touch’s Mind Your Pickney.

The competition then shifted to the Community Bands category, where Starlift Steel Orchestra claimed top honours with 268 points for its performance of Baila Sanka by Exodus.

Symphonix Steel Orchestra secured second place with 254 points for its rendition of Disco Ivy by Asterics, while Elite Steel Orchestra placed third with 188 points after performing Touch’s I Love Me Wife.

Six bands participated in this year’s competition, which celebrated the enduring role of steelpan music in family and community life.

Absent from the event was Sion Hill Steel Orchestra. Reports earlier this year indicated that the band had been experiencing internal challenges.

Organisers congratulated all participating bands for their performances and contributions to the continued development of steelpan music among the nation’s youth and communities.
