The West St. George community of Dauphine is celebrating what is believed to be the first time a resident of the area has reached 100 years of age.
Today, March 6, Ms Olive Questelles is celebrating her 100th birthday surrounded by relatives and friends.
True to her festive spirit, she plans to continue the celebration tomorrow, and her family has agreed to host another gathering on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
“She’s a firecracker – vibrant, forthright to a fault, and very God-fearing,” her great-granddaughter, Ms Lateefa Noel, told One News SVG today.
Ms Questelles joins Mr Wellington Williams of Barrouallie, who celebrated his 100th birthday on February 28 , and Mrs Beatrice Franklyn of Prospect, who also joined the centenarian club earlier this month when she turned 100 on February 17.
According to Ms Noel, her great-grandmother spent much of her life as a businesswoman.
“She started off working in a bakery, then branched out to open her own small shops, including one in neighbouring Gomea,” Ms Noel said.
Ms Questelles is the mother of thirteen children, three of whom have passed away. She also has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
When asked about the secret to her long life, Ms Noel said her great-grandmother attributes her longevity to “hard work and God’s grace.” Despite her age, Ms Questelles remains active, though she moves about more slowly these days.
“Her favourite saying has always been, ‘Thank God for life,’ and we truly thank God with her and for her every day,” Ms Noel added.
