A rare tie highlighted the 2026 Junior Calypso competition on Tuesday night as Princess Alexia “Lexie” Deshong of Sandy Bay Secondary School and Devine Walters of St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown were both crowned Secondary School Junior Calypso champions.
Deshong secured the title with her performance of I Cry, while Walters impressed judges with Mr. A I, resulting in the pair sharing the top honour following the finals at Victoria Park as part of Vincy Mas 2026. Ameerah Glasgow, also of St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, placed third with Blessed Are the Peacemakers.
Deshong’s success did not end there. The young performer also secured second place in the Junior Soca Monarch competition with her song Craze, making her one of the standout performers of the night.
The Junior Soca title went to Lylanie “Singing Lylie” Bascombe of Thomas Saunders Secondary School, whose performance of Earthquake earned her the crown. Demi “D-Diva” Bruce of Bishop’s College Kingstown captured third place with Soca.
In the Primary School Junior Calypso competition, Dorsetshire Hill Government School delivered a commanding performance by claiming the top two positions.
Samiya “My My” Hutchins emerged victorious with Journey to Prosperity, while fellow Dorsetshire Hill student Amina Lucas placed second with Good Role Models. Valiesha Johnson of Tourama Government School secured third place with Dollars & Sense.
The Junior Calypso and Junior Soca competitions were held at Victoria Park on 30 June as part of the Vincy Mas 2026 programme.
