Last weekend saw an exciting display from talented athletes at the Hairouna Karate Federation’s National Karate Championship.
Dragon-Ryū Karate walked away with 24 medals in both disciplines of Kata and Kumite.
After a credible showing on Saturday for Kata, the team of 18 athletes dominated the Kumite segment on Sunday, taking 14 of the 18 medals.
Brothers Rishaud and Rishawn Roache swept 3 gold and 1 silver between them. In the male 9 – 11 category, Mwanza Hypolite took the gold while newcomer Aiden John took silver.
First-time competitors Kalilah Williams and Camisha Ollievierre gained gold and silver respectively in their category female 9 – 11.
The dojo presented a strong female presence with seven female athletes participating.
The team from Dragon-Ryū Karate competed against athletes from IKD Shotokan Karate Club and Seishin Karate Club.
