GRENADA AND ST. VINCENT THROUGH TO DIGICEL CARIBBEAN CUP NEW YORK SEMI FINALS

27 August 2009

CaribPR Wire, Monday, August 24th, 2009 - Brooklyn, New York, USA: Grenada and St. Vincent & the Grenadines grabbed the second semi final spot in the Digicel Caribbean Cup New York yesterday, to join St. Lucia and Jamaica in what is sure to be an exciting semi-final at the Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, New York, next Sunday, August 30th.

Digicel was on hand at the match on Sunday with some exciting competitions and giveaways. Two lucky football fans - Christopher Poleon from St. Lucia and Sheldon Dale from Jamaica - took part in the Digicel Kick for Cards competition and walked away with Digicel calling cards to call their friends and family back home.

Poleon was delighted with his win and said: "Watching St. Lucia in action and winning a Digicel calling card to call my family at home was a great way to spend a Sunday."

During yesterday's first quarter final match, five-time champions St. Vincent & the Grenadines survived a determined challenge from Antigua & Barbuda, walking away with a 1-0 advantage in front of a full house of supporters armed with Digicel horns and drums.

In the second quarter final, former Digicel Caribbean Cup New York champions, Grenada, scored twice against St. Kitts & Nevis - although one was subsequently disallowed - and held on to win 1-0.

Grenada now faces defending Digicel Caribbean Cup New York champions, Jamaica, on  Sunday August 30th in what can best be described as a 'grudge' match. Grenada, with five CONCACAF Gold Cup players in its team, was thrashed 3-0 by Jamaica in a regular season conference match last month.

The semi-finals take place on Sunday August 30th at 3:30 pm.
