India’s Prime Minister says SVG is a valuable partner

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a thank you letter responding to St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister – Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. 

“Thank you for your warm congratulatory message on my re-election. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a valuable partner in the CARICOM community. Bilateral cooperation between our two countries deepened in recent years,” Mr. Modi said in the letter dated June 25, 2025, but circulated to the media, recently.

“There is convergence of views and collaboration at the regional and multilateral for a as well. I am confident that our bonds of friendship will continue to strengthen in the years to come,” Mr. Modi added. 

Mr. Modi who was re-elected Prime Minister of

India in May 2024, also sent best wishes to the people of SVG. 

Both countries have been supporting each other in the international arena. 

India has been supporting SVG, directly, through the funding of Quick Impact Projects where several infrastructure projects across several communities have been built.

A recent agreement signed between both countries will see more infrastructure projects under the Quick Impact initiative. 

Recently, the Embassy of India in Paramaribo, Suriname announced that High Commissioner of India to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines resident in Paramaribo, Amb.Subhash Gupta and Hon. Frederick Stephenson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Consumer Affairs of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, signed an agreement regarding Indian Grant Assistance for the implementation of Quick Impact Projects. 

The projects are aimed at enhancing community infrastructure across the country, and they are funded by the Government of India. 

Foreign Minister Stephenson underscored that “This partnership exemplifies our shared vision of empowering communities and creating opportunities for the development and well-being of the residents. We are deeply grateful to the Government of India for their unwavering support and cooperation,” the Embassy said. 

In May 2022, then President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind visited SVG in the final leg of his state visit to two nations –Jamaica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. 

It was the first state visit of an Indian President to SVG.
