Newly appointed Minister of Youth, Sport, Culture and Creative Industries, Honourable Kaschaka Cupid, delivered his first official Nine Mornings address on Sunday evening, pledging to continue the innovation and development of the century-old Vincentian tradition.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s festivities, themed “Stop Yawning, We Going Nine Mornings”, Minister Cupid emphasized that the festival remains a cornerstone of Vincentian identity, blending spirituality, community, and creativity. He noted that Nine Mornings is not just a cultural event but “a way to honor the past while embracing the future,” and promised to encourage further growth and innovation to ensure its continuity for generations to come.

The Minister acknowledged Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday, parliamentary colleagues, committee chairman Bonani Charles, sponsors, and cultural practitioners, while highlighting the importance of youth participation. “The continuity of Nine Mornings depends on us and our efforts to introduce it to new generations,” he said, urging families to support community programs and celebrate with pride.

This year’s program features a diverse lineup of activities including, lighting competitions, community breakfasts, spiritual reflections, children’s events, and cultural performances, ensuring that “there will be something for everyone.” Cupid praised volunteers and performers as “the heartbeat of the festival” and encouraged audiences to come out each morning to demonstrate that Vincentian culture is “alive, dynamic, and unshakable.”

He also reminded the gathering of the deeper meaning of Christmas, calling on citizens to reflect on hope, compassion, and unity beyond the nine days of celebration. “Let us remember the true meaning of Christmas… and keep the joy of the season in our hearts throughout the year,” he said.

Nine Mornings is a unique Vincentian festival observed in the nine days leading up to Christmas. Each morning before dawn, communities across SVG gather for cultural activities ranging from music, dance street concerts and competitions.

Minister Cupid’s debut Nine Mornings speech underscored his commitment to innovation and youth engagement in sustaining the festival. With a packed program ahead, the event continues to symbolize unity, creativity, and Vincentian pride, while preserving a tradition.
