Pastor Brent Urges New Cabinet to Lead with Justice, Mercy, and Humility

At the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Cabinet, Pastor Brent St. Jean delivered a charge to the nation’s leaders, grounding his message in the biblical text of Micah 6:8: “What does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Addressing elected officials, civic leaders, attendees and viewers, Pastor St. Jean emphasized that leadership is a sacred responsibility entrusted by God and the people. He anchored his charge in three guiding principles drawn from the prophet Micah. First, he stressed the call to justice, urging leaders to ensure fairness and equality for all Vincentians, regardless of political affiliation, social class, or age, and to protect the marginalized while dismantling systems of inequality. Second, he emphasized the need for mercy, rejecting revenge and vindictiveness and instead encouraging leaders to act with compassion, integrity, and transparency even in the face of criticism. “It’s not about revenge, it’s about mercy,” he declared, calling for a paradigm shift in the nation’s political culture. Finally, he underscored the importance of humility, reminding officials that authority is a trust, not an entitlement, and that true strength lies in serving without arrogance and listening to the people.
The pastor’s charge extended beyond government, calling on citizens to take responsibility for building a better nation. He urged communities to stand against drugs, abuse, alcoholism, and idleness, while teachers, parents, and van drivers were reminded of their roles in shaping positive values and safe practices.
In closing, Pastor St. Jean shared his dream of a new St. Vincent and the Grenadines where politicians put country above self, where transparency defines governance, and where prosperity is shared across party lines.
“Let your words bring unity rather than division, let your actions bring hope rather than despair, and let your tenure bring progress,” he charged, invoking God’s strength and wisdom to guide the nation’s leaders in their service.
