Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday, during the swearing-in ceremony of his new Cabinet, extended gratitude to former Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and members of the outgoing administration for their years of service to the nation.
Speaking before dignitaries, members of the judiciary, regional leaders, and citizens gathered at the Arnos Vale Stadium, Dr. Friday acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, noting that while their approaches may have differed, he never questioned the intentions of those who offered themselves to serve.
“I wish to thank the former Prime Minister Gonsalves and all of those who served in the previous government for their service to the country,” Dr. Friday said. “We may have differed about approaches, but I never questioned the intention of anyone who offers themselves to serve.”

The remarks came as Dr. Friday and his ministers formally assumed office following last week’s general election, which delivered a decisive mandate for change. The Prime Minister emphasised that the victory was not simply about replacing one government with another, but about reshaping governance, strengthening community ties, and addressing pressing national concerns such as the high cost of living, unemployment, and violent crime.
Dr. Friday also urged unity in the post-election period, reminding supporters and opponents alike that politics should not overshadow family and community ties, especially as the Christmas season approaches.
The ceremony was attended by regional figures including Dr. Didacus Jules, Director General of the OECS, and Dr. Isaac Solomon, Vice President of the Caribbean Development Bank.
By thanking Dr. Gonsalves publicly, Dr. Friday positioned his administration as one that values continuity of service while embracing renewal. The gesture is likely to be seen as an effort to foster political civility and national healing after a hard-fought election.
