Psychiatrist Competes for US$40,000 to Build Support Home for Former Prisoners

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PraxTherapy, forensic psychiatrist Dr Enyinne Williams, has entered an annual international online competition called Fab Over 40 in an effort to win the grand prize of US$40,000 to open a support home, commonly known as a halfway house, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). The facility would provide temporary housing, medication management, therapy, and reintegration support to former prisoners.
The move, according to Dr Williams, is to ensure that people who leave Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) re-enter society safely and with dignity.
The psychiatrist currently runs a programme at HMP, which is spearheaded by the Ministry of National Security through the Ministry of Legal Affairs, and is aimed at engaging prisoners with mental health issues to support rehabilitation and improve overall well-being at the facility.
In a recent interview with the Agency for Public Information (API), Dr Williams said that when inmates are released some are sent back into society without any warning, and as a result there is no plan or follow-up process.
“There needs to be some way to support recovery and rehabilitation while providing a proper environment to lower recidivism and to overall just support recovery and community reintegration. Newly released inmates need to be offered social support to decrease the likelihood of reoffending,” Dr Williams said.
She stressed that having a halfway house will reduce the risk of reoffending and provide stability and guidance during the re-entry process.
“While they are in the halfway house, you can create job-readiness programmes to develop skills and expand on the positives they might have learnt in prison, and by doing this you inevitably enhance employability and independence,” Dr Williams pointed out.
She added that some inmates are released with nowhere to go, and that the shortage of affordable housing in SVG makes it difficult for them to settle back into society. Providing housing support is therefore essential to help them recover and reintegrate.
As part of her efforts to fund the halfway house, Dr Williams has entered the Fab Over 40 contest, an annual online competition for women aged 40 and over, with the winner appearing on the cover of NewBeauty Magazine and receiving US$40,000.
Voting is a key part of the competition, with free daily votes and opportunities to make paid donations, where US$1 equals one vote. Those wishing to vote can do so at: https://fabover40.org/2025/enyinne-fbd7.
Dr Williams said she is appealing to Vincentians and supporters worldwide to vote for her, as winning the cash prize would help make the halfway house a reality.
