There was no contention among members of the audience or his fellow competitors seated next to him on the stage when the results were announced that Rahj Bulze won the 2024 Lions Club Flow National Public Speaking competition.

In fact, a robust applause broke out tonight at the Methodist Church Hall upon the announcement that Mr. Bulze won the competition. The LIVE broadcast of the event on social media was flooded with comments expressing the deservingness of Mr. Bulze’s win.

Mr. Bulze from the Dr. J.P Eustace Memorial Secondary School owned the stage throughout the competition and some people have described him as a “gifted speaker”.

His mastery helped him appease the judges and the audience resulting in him winning the Student Prepared Speech and the Impromptu Speech categories of the prestigious National competition.

His win is likely to mean much for his school which, earlier this year, had received less than favourable press.

The fifth former’s win also means he has created history for the school becoming the first person to win the national public speaking competition since the renaming of the school from Emmanuel High School Kingstown to Dr. J.P. Eustace Memorial Secondary School in 2006.

Bulze outspoke all of his competitors, five other finalists who based on their performances during the preliminary round of the competition, earned their places in the finals.

He has won a scholarship valued at XCD $4,000 from Flow and a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, among other prizes.

In second position, overall, was Ms. Samarah Lynch of the Mountain View Adventist Academy.

The third position was taken by Mr. Alexander Cummings of the St. Martin’s Secondary School. He also won the Best Prepared Speech category.

The other finalists were Macy Baptiste of the Sandy Bay Secondary School, Kyra Johnson of the North Union Secondary School, and Jaheem Primus of the St. Vincent Grammar School.

This year, the finalists were challenged to speak on the main topic: “Our world is in a state ofconfusion as it tries to reconcile one’s inalienable rights, civil liberties, religious beliefs, and the role of the State.”

The event held at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown was also viewed by thousands of people online.
