The Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Physical Planning has announced plans to construct a roundabout at the Arnos Vale Tarmac as part of a wider effort to improve traffic flow and road safety in the area. Minister Nigel Stephenson confirmed that designs have already been prepared and that the project is intended to reduce congestion and improve movement for motorists and pedestrians.
Speaking on radio, Stephenson explained that the roundabout is one of several measures under consideration. He said the government also intends to introduce an additional lane between the Arnos Vale Tarmac and Kingstown. In the morning, two lanes will be opened from the Windward side into Kingstown, while in the evening the arrangement will be reversed to allow two lanes heading out of Kingstown.

Stephenson noted that traffic delays have become a major concern for commuters, with some journeys taking close to an hour between Arnos Vale and Prospect. He said the ministry is also examining alternative routes to ease pressure on the main corridor.
The minister emphasized that the projects will take time to implement, as funding must be secured before construction begins. He said the Project Management Implementation Unit within the ministry is responsible for overseeing the work and ensuring that the new road networks are delivered.
Residents and drivers who rely on the Arnos Vale corridor daily have expressed concern about the long delays during peak hours. The roundabout and lane expansion are expected to provide relief once completed, offering a more efficient system for those traveling in and out of Kingstown.
