Commissioner of Police Mr. Enville Williams has underscored the vital role of the Regional Security System (RSS) in safeguarding small island states, stressing that collective security remains essential in an era of shifting political and economic realities.

Speaking during a meeting with RSS leadership, Commissioner Williams highlighted the unity fostered through RSS training and collaboration, noting that such partnerships allow member states to strengthen maritime and shipping security while ensuring safer communities across the region.

“As a small island state, we cannot do it alone. We lack the resources to secure ourselves entirely, so we depend on this partnership with the RSS to create lasting resilience,” Williams said.

“Together, we continue to bring dividends for our people from a security standpoint, realizing a safer and more prosperous region.”

The meeting which was held in the Ministry of National Security’s conference room, brought together Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Sinclair Leacock, Commissioner Williams, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Ms. Lawan Thomas, and RSS Executive Director Rear Admiral Errington Shurland, along with Deputy Executive Director Captain Rodney.

Discussions emphasized the importance of the RSS in maintaining regional stability and supporting member states in addressing evolving threats. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the Caribbean remains secure through shared responsibility and coordinated action.

Commissioner Williams concluded by stressing that the RSS presence “at the table” continues to deliver tangible benefits for citizens, reinforcing the organization’s role as a cornerstone of regional security cooperation.
