Search Continues for Missing Person at Sea

The search is ongoing for one person who is missing at sea.

Officials have confirmed to One News SVG that a vessel with three individuals on board, who were fishing, encountered difficulties and reportedly capsized in waters between Bequia and St. Vincent today (March 27).

Two of the three individuals have since been rescued, while the third person remains missing at the time of this report.

All individuals were reported to be wearing life jackets.

The identities of those involved have not been disclosed to the media.

The SVG Coast Guard is actively coordinating the search; however, rough marine conditions today are making sailing and rescue operations challenging.

In all weather reports issued for March 27, 2025, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services stated: “Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution due to above-normal sea swells.”

The first rescue 

Earlier today, March 27, at approximately 2:30 p.m., one of the individuals was found in the waters between mainland St. Vincent and Bequia, after their boat capsized around 11:00 a.m.

According to reports, the Bequia Express 1, a marine vessel belonging to a company that operates daily scheduled services between St. Vincent and the islands of the Grenadines—particularly Bequia—was sailing from Bequia to St. Vincent when a passenger spotted someone floating in the water.

The vessel came to a stop, and the person was safely pulled aboard.

The circumstances surrounding the rescue of the second person remain unclear; however, authorities have confirmed that a second individual was indeed rescued.
