St Vincent Girls’ High wins CARICOM Youth Agriculture Video Competition

St Vincent and the Grenadines has captured the top prize in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) “I Am Agriculture: Youth in Agriculture” High School Video Competition for the second consecutive edition, with St Vincent Girls’ High School earning first place in this year’s regional contest.

The latest victory follows Georgetown Secondary School’s first-place finish in the inaugural competition, reinforcing St Vincent and the Grenadines’ growing reputation for excellence in youth agricultural education and innovation.

CARICOM announced the 2026 results on its official Facebook page on Sunday (September 27), congratulating the winning schools and all students who participated.

Mopan Technical High School of Belize secured second place, while Gingerland Secondary School of St Kitts and Nevis placed third.

The competition invited secondary school students from across the Caribbean Community to produce a 60-second video highlighting the importance of agriculture to their communities, countries and the wider region.

St Vincent Girls’ High School’s winning entry earned the US$1,700 first prize. The second and third-place schools received US$1,300 and US$1,000, respectively.

In announcing the winners, CARICOM praised the creativity and passion displayed by young people across the region.

“A huge congratulations to our winning schools and to all the young people who participated, using their creativity and voices to showcase the importance and future of agriculture in the Caribbean,” the regional body said.

CARICOM added that the entries demonstrated that “the future of Caribbean agriculture is innovative, creative and full of possibility.”

The first-place prize is scheduled to be presented during the 20th Caribbean Week of Agriculture, taking place from September 27 to October 2, 2026, in Trelawny, Jamaica.

The latest success builds on St Vincent and the Grenadines’ strong performance in the competition. Earlier this year, following an additional review of submissions, CARICOM confirmed Georgetown Secondary School as the winner of the 2024/2025 edition, ahead of Mopan Technical High School of Belize and Pleasantville Secondary School of Trinidad and Tobago.

More than 40 schools from across the region took part in that inaugural competition, which was launched by the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). The initiative was developed following the 17th Caribbean Week of Agriculture, hosted in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and aims to encourage young people to showcase successful school agriculture programmes, promote sustainable farming practices and inspire greater interest in agriculture as a career and business opportunity.

Georgetown Secondary School’s winning video highlighted the work of more than 70 students involved in the school’s agriculture programme, including the use of sustainable farming techniques such as plastic mulch, intercropping and drought-resilient sweet potato varieties developed through support from the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI).

With St Vincent Girls’ High School now adding another regional title, St Vincent and the Grenadines has firmly established itself as a leader in showcasing youth-driven innovation and creativity in Caribbean agriculture.
