Students from the Division of Technical and Vocational Education (DTVE) at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) are making a meaningful impact beyond the classroom through a recent donation of fresh cucumbers to the Thompson Home for the Elderly.
Agriculture students Zaylie Lewis and Kemelia Samuel led the initiative, personally delivering the harvest to the Home’s caretakers, Sister Browne and Ms. Richardson. The donation was warmly received and will help support the nutritional needs of the residents.
This gesture not only demonstrates the students’ practical skills in crop production, but also reflects a deeper understanding of the core pillars of food security—availability, access, utilization, and stability.

By providing fresh, local produce to a vulnerable population, the students are actively contributing to a more inclusive and resilient food system.
The initiative underscores the DTVE Agriculture Programme’s commitment to community engagement, sustainability, and the cultivation of socially conscious agricultural leaders. It also highlights the important role of youth and education in strengthening national and household food security.
From the soil to the soul, the DTVE Agriculture Programme continues to plant seeds of positive change throughout communities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
