There is much anxiety across families in Sandy Bay and other North Windward communities as several young people are reported to be missing at sea.
Preliminary reports indicate that about seven people were travelling on a speedboat from Bequia to the mainland when the boat encountered difficulties near the Brighton Salt Pond area.
One person managed to swim close to shore and was rescued by the SVG Coast Guard.
Up to the time of this publication, the others were unaccounted for, but the SVG Coast Guard is searching.
The individuals missing are said to be mainly people under the age of 20.
In its 6:00 p.m. weather report, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services issued a Marine Advisory saying, “Small-craft operators and sea-bathers should continue to exercise caution for occasional northerly swells, breaking wave action, rip currents & gusty winds.”
This story is developing, and we will only provide an update when we have more facts to report.
The news comes weeks after a man drowned at Diamond on the Atlantic (Windward side). His body washed up in Buccament on the Caribbean Sea (Leeward side).
