The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has issued a public alert about widespread tool theft across the country.
In the December 5 Alert, the RSVGPF said it is calling on all citizens, residents and visitors to remain vigilant following a rise in tool thefts from workshops, construction sites, and vehicles.
“This troubling trend is affecting tradespeople and homeowners alike, disrupting livelihoods and essential services in our neighborhoods,” the RSVGPF said.
The police also provided tips to the public on how to combat the situation. The tips include securing one’s property, installing CCTV cameras, staying alert, working together, marking one’s tools, and reporting incidents quickly.
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said it is actively addressing the issue through strategic measures aimed at deterring thefts, preventing further incidents, and closely investigating all reports.
It said: “While not every measure may be immediately visible, please rest assured that targeted strategies are in place to hold those responsible accountable. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help strengthen our collective efforts”.
Ploice say they can be contacted at Criminal Investigations Department (CID): (784) 456-1810, Police Emergency: Dial 999/911, and Police Control: (784) 457-1211.
Here are the full tips from the police:
Securing Your Property: Ensure tools and equipment are stored in secure locations. Lock workshops, sheds, and vehicles, especially overnight.
● Install CCTV Cameras: Surveillance cameras act as a strong deterrent to potential thieves and provide valuable evidence that can aid in identifying and prosecuting offenders.
● Stay Alert: Pay attention to unusual activity in your neighborhood. Report suspicious behavior immediately.
● Work Together: Strengthen ties with neighbors. A connected and observant community is a safer community.
● Mark Your Tools: Engrave or label tools with identifiable marks. This makes it easier for police to recover stolen items.
● Report Incidents Quickly: If you are a victim of theft or notice anything unusual, contact the police immediately.
