Life Academy Continues to Equip Women to Explore Agriculture and Life Skills

Helen’s Daughters, a Life Academy in St Vincent and the Grenadines, continues to equip female farmers with the knowledge required to become modern farmers, while also providing other vital life skills that support both mental and physical well-being.
Local programme coordinator, Shaquana Barbour, said that for 2025 the organisation facilitated a series of training exercises designed to help female farmers adapt to the modern challenges they face.
Ms. Barber explained that with climate change affecting St Vincent and the Grenadines, farmers must adapt to more modernised methods. As part of this transition, the academy offered online theoretical sessions covering topics such as financial literacy, climate change, agritourism, and more.
In addition to online learning, practical sessions were also held to reinforce knowledge and expose participants to modern farming techniques. These included visits to the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) Field Station, where young women observed updated farming practices and explored ways they could implement similar methods.

Ms. Barber noted that these sessions were very well received by participants, who appreciated the knowledge and practical exposure.
Ms. Barber said the academy hopes to encourage more young women to become involved in agriculture, starting at the secondary and college levels.
She noted that the Life Academy extends beyond agriculture, offering training in areas such as makeup, nutrition, and breast awareness, ensuring participants receive holistic life-skills development.
Individuals interested in participating in these training sessions can visit Helen’s Daughters on Facebook, TikTok or Instagram to register. The sessions are open to the public, but exclusively for women.
