The Black Sands Swim Squad (BSSS) excelled at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Center (SAC) Invitational 2026 in Ratho Mill, held from February 26th to March 1st, capturing multiple overall champion titles and a total of 156 medals.
The SAC Invitational 2026 brought together several swimming teams from across St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). BSSS delivered an outstanding performance, fielding 37 swimmers and securing 48 bronze, 54 silver, and 54 gold medals. The squad dominated across all age groups, earning Overall Champion honours in multiple divisions: 8 & Under – Sarai Williams, 9–10 – Ira Hadley, 13–14 – Kione Deshong, and 15 & Over – Eltonique Leonard.
The meet featured swims from the entire BSSS team, including several athletes competing for the first time. “Coaches noted remarkable improvements across the squad, reflecting the club’s steady development and commitment to excellence,” the BSSS said in a recent press release.

“In a notable milestone for local swimming, no records were broken during the meet for the first time. BSSS Coach Kyle Dougan attributed this to the exceptionally high standards of existing national records, emphasising how challenging they have become to surpass as the sport continues to advance,” the swim squad stated.
Congratulations were also extended to Blue Marlins Swim Club for winning overall champions at the meet.
Commendation was also given to the SVG Swimming Federation for its continued role in supporting the growth and high standards of competitive swimming in the country.
The next local competition on the calendar is the Summer Nationals, scheduled to take place in St Vincent from August 27th – 30th.
