Government workers across St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be recognised later this month as the Ministry of National Security, Disaster Management and Immigration rolls out a week of activities to mark Public Service Week 2026.
The observance will run from June 16 to June 23 and will culminate in Public Service Day on June 23, in line with the United Nations’ annual recognition of public servants worldwide.
This year’s programme is being coordinated through the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU) under the Ministry of National Security.
The 2026 observance is being held under the United Nations theme: “Transforming Public Institutions: Advancing Innovation, Participation and Inclusion,” which highlights the need for modern, responsive and inclusive public services.
According to the Ministry, Public Service Day serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and contribution of public officers who deliver essential services to citizens across the country. The wider week of activities is intended to promote innovation, collaboration and citizen-centred service delivery across the public sector.
Serving officers, retirees, interns, church communities and members of the public are expected to take part in various events throughout the week, which will celebrate public service and highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen government institutions.

The week will open on June 16 with a church service to mark Public Service Week at the New Testament Church of God, Wilson Hill, Kingstown, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
On June 17 and 18, the Public Service Internship Programme will be held across various ministries and departments from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The programme is designed to place interns within government ministries and departments, giving them hands-on exposure to public sector operations and allowing them to gain practical experience in administrative and institutional work.
A Public Service Digital Innovation Forum will also take place on June 18 at 9:00 a.m. at the Upper Floor of the Methodist Church Hall.
Public Servants Appreciation Day will be observed on June 19 within ministries and departments as an internal activity.
On June 20, a Public Service Retiree Cocktail is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Sandals Resort. Recognition of public servants will also take place across churches throughout the country on June 20 and 21.

A Public Service Speaking Competition involving eight ministries is set for June 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Upper Floor of the Methodist Church Hall.
The week will conclude on June 23 with a Public Service March beginning at 9:00 a.m. from Heritage Square to the car park next to the Ministerial Building. A street exhibition will follow, including displays in central Kingstown and at the car park area from around 11:00 a.m.
The Public Sector Reform Unit has invited all ministries and departments to participate fully in the week’s activities, describing the observance as a collective celebration of public officers and their contribution to national development.
Citizens are also encouraged to attend open events and recognise the work of public servants who provide essential services across communities.
