Press Release. Updated 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Atlantic Standard Time (GMT-4).

Former government minister in the government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Hon. Carlos James has officially been admitted to the Bar of the Virgin Islands, expanding his legal practice into the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

His application was presented before Justice Theresa Hadad in the High Court of the Territory of the Virgin Islands by Christian Roberts of McW. Todman & Co.

James, the principal of Carlos James Law Chambers in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, brings over 16 years of experience as a Barrister-at-Law and Solicitor. His admission to the BVI Bar strengthens his capacity to provide legal expertise in complex, cross-border corporate and civil matters within the region’s premier financial jurisdiction.

A member of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, James is also a member of the Bar of England and Wales and the Bar of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. His legal practice spans several disciplines, including corporate law and civil litigation, advising businesses on structure, compliance, and commercial disputes; real property and conveyancing, negotiating and closing on high-value real estate transactions and development projects; estates and non-contentious probate; and criminal litigation, representing clients in complex criminal defense matters.

James has developed a broad expertise in international legal matters, having completed selected consultancies with international law firms in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong-based jurisdictions entering the Caribbean jurisdiction.

James’s cross-border legal expertise allows him to navigate complex international regulatory frameworks and facilitate foreign direct investment into the Caribbean market. By bridging the gap between major global financial hubs and the regional legal landscape, he offers strategic counsel to private clients, multinational entities, expatriate clients, and overseas investors navigating multi-jurisdictional compliance, international asset management, and cross-border commercial disputes.

In addition to his legal practice, James has a distinguished record of public service. He previously served as a government minister in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where he managed the portfolios of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development, and Culture and also served as House Speaker and Deputy House Speaker of the Parliament of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
