Kizanique Warren of Pamelus Burke Government School emerged as the overall winner of the school’s 3rd Annual Public Speaking Competition, winning both the Prepared Speech and Impromptu Speech categories during the school’s Literacy Week 2026 celebrations.
Warren delivered outstanding performances throughout the competition, earning 138 points in the Prepared Speech category and 63 points in the Impromptu Speech category for a combined total of 201 points, placing her at the top.
The annual event brought together talented young speakers from several rural schools, providing students with an opportunity to showcase their public speaking skills, confidence, and creativity before judges and supporters.
In the Prepared Speech category, Warren claimed first place with 138 points. Lyanna Williams of Georgetown Government School secured second place with 127 points, while Zeniah Collins of Langley Park Government School finished third with 125.5 points.
The Impromptu Speech competition was equally competitive, with Warren once again taking first place with 63 points. Zyana Hackshaw of South Rivers Methodist School placed second with 62.5 points, while Seriah Whyte of New Grounds Government School earned third place with 57 points.
When the scores from both categories were combined, Hackshaw finished second overall with 184 points, while Williams placed third overall with 171 points.
The other contestant was Delicia Jennings of the Colonaire Government School, who also did well in representing her school at the competition.
Organizers praised all participants for their preparation, enthusiasm, and excellent presentations. The competition, held as part of Literacy Week 2026, continues to be a highlight on the school’s calendar, encouraging students to develop strong communication and leadership skills.
Literacy Week 2026 began at the Pamelus Burke Government School on Monday, June 1, and will culminate tomorrow, June 5, with Character Day.
