School sports programmes across St Vincent and the Grenadines are set to benefit from strengthened collaboration between the Division of Sports and Physical Activities and national sporting associations, following a series of structured engagements aimed at improving support at the school level.

In a recent press release, the Division of Sports and Physical Activities within the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Creative Industries stated that eleven meetings were held over a four-week period with various national sporting bodies. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in school competitions, improving programme delivery, and strengthening technical and developmental support for school sport.

The Division confirmed that, as a result of the discussions, several collaboration agreements were reached between the Division and national sporting associations, covering coaching support, training programmes, technical assistance, and sponsorship of school competitions.

Under the agreed arrangements, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation will provide coaching support for school representative teams ahead of upcoming competitions scheduled for August 2026. The Federation will also assist with internal school competitions and sponsor two school football tournaments.

The Netball Association will deliver training for scorers and umpires, alongside professional development sessions for Physical Education teachers. The Cricket Association will support after-school coaching programmes and sponsor two school competitions, while the Squash Association will facilitate weekday coaching sessions for students.

The Archery, Tennis and Gymnastics Associations will conduct coaching seminars for Physical Education teachers and provide after-school coaching opportunities for students. The Volleyball and Basketball Associations will also offer technical coaching seminars for teachers.

Team Athletics SVG and the National Olympic Committee will provide technical assistance for event hosting, alongside administrative, anti-doping and technical training courses. They will also collaborate on the development of a national schools sports database.

Coordinator of Sports, Mr Roxell John, said the series of meetings had been highly productive, noting that it had “opened a cadre of pleasing opportunities”.

He added that the Division will also provide support to schools not directly covered under the current arrangements, where requests fall within its capacity.

The Division further stated that all programmes will be optional and dependent on school interest, with participation to be coordinated through the Ministry of Education.
