Residents of Glen were left shaken on Wednesday (June 24) after gunshots were reportedly heard from within the compound of the Mental Health Centre during an incident involving a man said to be experiencing a mental health crisis.
According to reports received by this publication, the incident began at the Accident and Emergency Department of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in Kingstown, where medical personnel were attempting to manage and restrain a man whose behaviour was described as erratic.
Sources indicated that the man’s actions reportedly created a disturbance, prompting police assistance. Several officers are said to have responded before the man was transported to the Mental Health Centre in Glen for further assessment and care.
However, reports suggest that the disturbance continued after his arrival at the Mental Health Centre in Glen. One News SVG understands that loud commotion could be heard from inside the compound.
Residents reported hearing two gunshots shortly afterwards.
Information reaching this publication indicates that police discharged their firearms during efforts to restrain the man. However, the circumstances surrounding the use of force have not yet been officially confirmed by authorities.
The man was subsequently transported back to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
He has been identified as Kevin Glasgow, 41, of Gomea.
The incident occurred at around 5:00 p.m.

The incident has sparked concern among some residents, many of whom said they were traumatised by the sound of gunfire coming from a healthcare facility.
At the time of publication, there had been no official statement from the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, the Ministry of Health, or hospital officials regarding the incident, the condition of the man involved, or whether any staff members, patients, police officers or other individuals were injured.
The extent of the impact on staff and patients at the Mental Health Centre also remains unclear.
This is a developing story. We will provide updates as more information becomes available from authoritative sources.
