A new air cargo service launched by Executive Air Limited is expected to provide Vincentian farmers with a faster option for moving agricultural produce across the Caribbean and to international markets.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados-based company, John Ackie, a Vincentian national, told One News SVG that the initiative stemmed from discussions several years ago about helping farmers transport fresh produce more efficiently between islands.
The service officially commenced on Wednesday, June 10, with its first shipment of agricultural produce departing Argyle International Airport in St Vincent for England via Barbados. The consignment included dasheen and other fresh produce.
Describing the development as a significant step forward for regional agriculture, Ackie said faster transportation can help preserve the quality and market value of fresh produce.
“It is a breakthrough,” he said, noting that while sea freight can take one to two weeks, air transport between neighbouring islands can be completed in less than an hour.

The aircraft being used for the service has a cargo capacity of approximately 8,000 pounds and a range of about 1,600 miles, enabling operations throughout much of the Eastern and Northern Caribbean.
Ackie said Executive Air is working to keep shipping costs affordable for farmers, but noted that sustained cargo volumes will be necessary to ensure the service’s viability.
He explained that farmers seeking to export produce will be required to work with the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant authorities to obtain the necessary health and export certifications. Once the required approvals are secured, Executive Air will facilitate transportation of the produce.
Ackie encouraged farmers to liaise with the company’s local representatives to schedule shipments and help establish regular flight schedules.
He also disclosed that Executive Air is exploring additional cargo services, including a proposed twice-weekly service from the United States to St Vincent and the Grenadines for the delivery of packages.
