
Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Recorded East of Barbados

A preliminary magnitude 6.0 earthquake was recorded in the Eastern Caribbean on Saturday evening, according to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre (SRC).
The earthquake occurred at 5:27 p.m. local time (9:27 p.m. UTC) on 30 May 2026.
The SRC’s automatic location report indicated that the earthquake was located at latitude 12.21 degrees North and longitude 59.57 degrees West, at a depth of 53 kilometres.
The epicentre was located approximately 100 kilometres south of Bridgetown, 173 kilometres north-east of Scarborough, and 212 kilometres south-east of Kingstown.
The UWI Seismic Research Centre noted that the location was generated automatically by computer algorithms and remains preliminary.
“The preliminary location has been automatically calculated by computer algorithms. It is subject to potential revisions pending evaluation by SRC analysts,” the centre stated in its advisory.
People in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) have described the quake as “strong” and “long”.
