A man who had been the subject of a public search appeal by the Ministry of Health has been found dead in Edinboro, West Kingstown.

Police confirmed that the body of Selwyn Joseph, also known as “Millie”, of Hamilton, Bequia, was discovered at approximately 11:10 a.m. on Saturday below Fort Charlotte in the Edinboro area.

According to reports, officers responded to a report of a decomposed body at the location.

The deceased was later positively identified by a close relative as Mr Joseph, who had been reported missing after leaving the Emergency Department at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environmental Health and Energy had issued a public appeal on June 26 seeking assistance in locating Mr Joseph, stating that he had left the hospital and was disoriented and may have become lost.

Police said there were no immediate signs of foul play. However, a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mr Joseph’s death are continuing.

The discovery brings to a close the search involving hospital staff, police, family members and members of the public who had assisted in efforts to locate him.
