Police investigate officer-involved fatal shooting in Mesopotamia

By Admin. Updated 4:57 p.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Atlantic Standard Time (GMT-4).

Police have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a Yambou man during an officer-involved incident in Mesopotamia late on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Michael Jackson, a 52-year-old labourer of Yambou.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said the incident occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. on August 4 in the vicinity of the Memorial Funeral Home in Mesopotamia.

According to the police, Jackson sustained a gunshot injury during the incident and was transported to the Levi Latham Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

The Commissioner of Police has since ordered an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police also said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of Jackson’s death.

The RSVGPF extended condolences to Jackson’s family and loved ones and said additional information will be released when appropriate.

The incident comes amid widespread public discussion after reports emerged overnight of a fatal shooting in the Mesopotamia community.

The police investigation is expected to determine the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the use of deadly force.
