Former President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, Mr. Marvin Fraser, has been selected by the Unity Labour Party’s Central Kingstown Council as the party’s candidate for the upcoming general election.

Mr. Fraser was nominated and selected tonight at the ULP Central Kingstown Conference held at the Lodge Village Government School.

His candidacy will now go to the ULP’s Central Executive and then to the party’s National Council for final approval.

Once approved, he will likely face the opposition New Democratic Party’s Vice President, St. Clair Leacock, who has held the seat since 2010.

The ULP’s last grip on Central Kingstown was from 2001 to 2010, during which time Conrad Sayers was elected to Parliament. Sayers passed away in December 2023.

Mr. Fraser, a sportsman, was elected President of the SVG Football Federation on August 16, 2018, at a General Session of the Football Federation. He served in that capacity for approximately 15 months between 2018 and 2019. He also once served as the Second Vice President of the SVGFF.

He is also known as a community man.

Mr. Fraser succeeds Mr. Dominic Sutherland.

The ULP now has to undergo selection processes for candidates in East Kingstown, West Kingstown, the Southern Grenadines, and South Windward.

General Election is constitutionally due in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) by November 2025, with an additional three-month grace period.

The ruling Unity Labour Party led by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves which holds nine of the fifteen seats in Parliament will be seeking an precedented sixth consecutive term in office while the opposition New Democratic Party led by Dr. Godwin Friday which holds six seats in Parliament will be seeking once again to end the ULP’s grip on power.
