The Grenadine House received two prestigious awards at the 2024 SVG Tourism Awards.
Representatives from the hotel, which features twenty guest rooms along with dining and conference facilities, were honored with the titles of Hotelier of the Year 2024 and Waitress of the Year 2024.
The awards were announced during the SVG Tourism Authority’s annual ceremony and cocktail event held at Beachcombers Hotel on November 30.
Ms. Isola Giddings was awarded Hotelier of the Year, while her staff member, Valrie Thomas, received the title of Waitress of the Year.
In its citation on Ms. Giddings, the SVG Hotel and Tourism Association (SVGHTA) said:
“Isola Giddings has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and guest satisfaction. On arrival, guests are enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that Isola has meticulously crafted. Her attention to detail is unparalleled; every aspect of the guest experience—from the décor and ambiance to the quality of service—reflects her commitment to creating memorable stays”.
“Isola understands that hospitality is not just about providing a place to stay; it’s about creating an experience that guests will cherish long after they’ve checked out. She has transformed Grenadine House into a premier hotel, renowned for its exceptional service and unique guest experiences. Isola’s dedication to her team is evident in her hands-on leadership style. She invests in her team’s professional growth through training and mentorship. She believes that a happy staff leads to happy guests,” the SVGHTA said.
“She has introduced unique programs such as themed events, local artist showcases, and culinary experiences featuring regional and local cuisine. Under her leadership the hotel continues to sponsor a contestant in the Miss SVG Pageant. This year she joined the Tourism Authority’s booth at Caribbean Hotel and
Tourism Association’s Marketplace in Jamaica. Isola holds a Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Management and a Master’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism both from Edinburgh Napier University”.
In its citation for Ms. Valrie Thomas, the SVG Hotel and Tourism Association said:
“Valrie, for short affectionately as known her Val, joined the Hospitality Industry just to assist with a function. However, with her radiant smiles, and willingness to assist, Val was asked to return the following day as a trainee in the restaurant”.
“This young lady is a testimony of excellent tourism employees; she had no clue how to present a plate. However, because of her enthusiasm in learning new skills and techniques, within a few months, Val had mastered not only the areas of restaurant, but has become well rounded as bartender, cashiering, waitress service, stock taking and excellent customer service”.
“When you spot Val, a smile immediately transforms her face. Her energy creates a positive environment to work in. She is reliable and a team member who ensures work ethics are maintained. Val displays great leadership skills; she is the youngest, but her team mates look up to her for guidance, which has benefited the entire department,” the citation stated.
