Popcaan and Shenseea Headline ULP, NDP Rallies as Parties Target Youth Ahead of Nov. 27 Elections

With just days before Vincentians head to the polls on Thursday, November 27, the two major political parties the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) and the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) are turning to entertainment as a central feature of their campaign rallies, enlisting international dancehall stars Popcaan and Shenseea to energise crowds and appeal to young and first time voters.
The NDP’s rally featuring Shenseea, whose popularity across the Caribbean and diaspora has made her a symbol of modern youth culture. The ULP countered with Popcaan, a performer known for his grassroots appeal and strong following among younger audiences.
Political observers note that the strategy reflects a deliberate attempt to mobilise younger demographics, who are often less engaged with traditional political speeches and manifestos. By integrating popular music into their rallies, both parties are seeking to make politics more accessible and appealing, framing their campaigns as part of the young electorate demand.

While entertainment has long been a feature of Caribbean politics, the prominence of internationally recognized performers in this election cycle highlights the growing importance of celebrity influence in voter mobilisation. Analysts caution, however, that while such rallies generate excitement, they may not guarantee voter turnout or translate into electoral gains.
As Vincentians prepare to cast their ballots, the rallies underscore a key dynamic of the 2025 campaign: both ULP and NDP are betting that the star power of Popcaan and Shenseea can help sway the youth vote in what is expected to be a closely contested election.
