In a symbolic gesture of continuity and cooperation, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Ms. Karin Sullivan, paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday and Foreign Minister Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble on Thursday, December 11th. The meeting marked the first high-level diplomatic engagement between the United States and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) since the recent general elections.
Ms. Sullivan extended congratulations to Prime Minister Friday on his electoral victory and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to maintaining strong and constructive bilateral relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Foreign Investment and Diaspora Affairs described the meeting as an opportunity to deepen the longstanding partnership between both nations, with shared priorities in prosperity, security, and regional well-being.

Historically, SVG and the United States have maintained cooperative ties across trade, security, disaster response, and democratic governance. The U.S. has supported SVG through initiatives such as the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI), USAID-funded resilience programmes, and post-disaster recovery efforts following volcanic eruptions and hurricanes. Diplomatic exchanges have also focused on maritime security, climate adaptation, and youth empowerment.
The December 11th meeting signals continuiy in SVG’s foreign policy orientation and opens the door for renewed collaboration on regional development, investment, and climate resilience. It also reflects SVG’s strategic positioning within the Eastern Caribbean as a partner in advancing democratic values and sustainable growth.
The Ministry has encouraged ongoing dialogue and technical cooperation with the United States, noting that future engagements will likely address shared concerns such as economic diversification, renewable energy, and regional security coordination.
