Speaking on WEFM 99.9’s Activated Mornings Show, newly appointed Rural Carnival Coordinator Codrian “DJ Flip” Simmons confirmed that seven rural carnivals have been sanctioned by the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) for 2026. The designated areas are North Leeward, South Leeward, Central Leeward, Bequia, Canouan, East St. George, and All Windward.

Simmons explained that rural carnivals will showcase each community’s identity while blending into the wider Vincy Mas culture. Launches will begin in Central Leeward on May 1st, tied to the “Bagga Fish Fest,” followed by North Leeward on May 9 and East St. George’s “Culture Pot.” Events will feature components such as Wet Fetes, J’ouvert, Pageantry, kiddies’ Carnival, Soca Monarch and Steet Jump Up, all supported by structured committees.

He acknowledged that funding remains a challenge, urging the public and businesses to show their  support through sponsorships, including the diaspora, he also asked each rural committee to engage residents respectfully, “letting persons who would be affected one way or the other, be it traffic or noise , must be informed in a timely and respected  manner” Simmons said.

“Committees are ready and have been ready,” Simmons said, stressing that rural carnival is about more than entertainment it is about community identity, structure, and cultural expression.

The rural launches form part of the build‑up to Vincy Mas 2026, which was officially launched on April theme “The Great Escape.” This year’s festival, running June 26th to July 7th, promises a destination‑style experience.

Together, the rural carnivals and national festival aim to strengthen community participation while positioning Vincy Mas as a premier cultural tourism event.
