The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environmental Health and Energy has categorically denied reports circulating on social media that an individual diagnosed with Hantavirus entered St. Vincent and the Grenadines, was placed in quarantine and later left an isolation facility.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, the ministry described the claims, which have been widely shared on platforms including WhatsApp, as “false”.

“To date, there have been no suspected or confirmed cases of Hantavirus in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and no individual has been placed in quarantine or isolation for Hantavirus-related concerns,” the ministry stated.

The clarification comes amid growing concern among some members of the public following the circulation of the unverified messages.

The ministry said it continues to work closely with local, regional and international partners to monitor emerging and re-emerging public health threats and ensure appropriate safeguards remain in place.

According to the ministry, surveillance measures remain active at the country’s ports of entry, including seaports and airports, as part of ongoing efforts to protect the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors.

Officials also thanked the public for its cooperation and urged citizens to help curb the spread of misinformation by verifying health-related information before sharing it.

The ministry encouraged individuals to rely on official press releases and other verified communications for accurate public health information.

“Rather than reposting unverified claims, we encourage members of the public to share this official notice and information published by the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environmental Health and Energy,” the statement said.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and pledged to continue providing timely and accurate information on any developments affecting the nation.
