Seven Vincentians have graduated from medical universities in Cuba, adding a new group of healthcare professionals expected to strengthen the delivery of medical services in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The graduates received their qualifications on Tuesday, 22 July 2026, under the longstanding scholarship cooperation programme between the Governments of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the Republic of Cuba. They are expected to return home equipped with the knowledge and skills to contribute to the country’s healthcare system.
The new graduates are:
- Angelique Alfred – Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine
- Rayon James – Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine
- Daneel Mc Phy – Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine
- Macello Scott – Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine
- Jayonne Tucker – Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine
- Ria Edwards – Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Shwayi Neverson – Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
In a press release issued by Ambassador of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to Cuba, Angella Ideisha Jackson, the graduates were recognised as an important addition to the nation’s healthcare workforce.
According to the release, the seven professionals completed studies in disciplines considered critical to the country’s development. Their training forms part of the educational partnership that has existed for decades between Kingstown and Havana, through which numerous Vincentians have pursued higher education in Cuba on scholarship.
The release described the graduates’ achievements as “a direct investment in the health, education and development of our people”, while expressing appreciation to the Government and people of Cuba for what it called their “unwavering solidarity” in supporting the programme.
The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines also extended congratulations to the graduates and their families and said it looks forward to the contribution they will make to national development as they begin their professional careers.
The graduation marks another milestone in the enduring educational and diplomatic relationship between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Cuba, which has provided scholarship opportunities for generations of Vincentian students, particularly in the medical field.
