Tropical Shipping Invests in Education of Five Students Entering Secondary School

Five students who recently earned places at secondary schools through the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) have received financial assistance from Tropical Shipping to help ease the cost of beginning the new academic year.

The scholarships were presented on Thursday, 30 July, under the company’s Educational Assistance Programme. Each student received vouchers valued at EC$925 to assist with the purchase of school uniforms and books as they prepare to enter secondary school.

Speaking during the presentation, Tropical Shipping’s Island Manager, Cedric McIntyre, encouraged the students to embrace the opportunities ahead while viewing challenges as part of the learning process.

He urged them not to be discouraged by mistakes, describing every setback as a lesson and every question asked as a step towards success. McIntyre also encouraged the students to dream ambitiously but reminded them that achieving those dreams requires clear goals, discipline, and consistency.

Sales Representative Kerwin Hinson congratulated the scholarship recipients on reaching an important milestone in their education and outlined how the Tropical Shipping Educational Assistance Programme supports students making the transition from primary to secondary school.

Representing the Ministry of Education, Senior Education Officer Suzette Ferdinand commended the students for their achievements and encouraged them to continue working hard while making their families proud. She also urged parents to remain actively involved in supporting their children’s educational journey.

Ferdinand expressed appreciation to Tropical Shipping for its sustained investment in education, noting that the company has partnered with the Ministry of Education over the past four years to assist students and contribute to the development of the nation’s young people.

Parents of the scholarship recipients welcomed the initiative, expressing gratitude for the assistance and noting that the vouchers would help reduce the financial pressures often associated with preparing children for secondary school.

The Tropical Shipping Educational Assistance Programme forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, which include supporting the well-being and educational development of children in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The company said it remains committed to giving back to the communities it serves.
