Layou resident Carmina Hinds marked her 103rd birthday on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, during a visit by Minister of Fisheries, Marine and Land Conservation, Climate Resilience, and Central Leeward Parliamentary Representative, Conroy Huggins.
In a recent press release issued by the Agency for Public Information (API), it was stated that the visit brought together family members to recognise Mrs. Hinds’ longevity and her longstanding presence in the Layou community.
Minister Huggins extended birthday greetings on behalf of the Government and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, noting Mrs. Hinds’ status within the constituency and acknowledging her contribution to the community over the years.
He stated that Mrs. Hinds is the oldest known resident of Layou and is believed to be the oldest living person in the Central Leeward constituency, while extending best wishes for her continued health and wellbeing.

Mrs. Hinds expressed gratitude for reaching 103 years and stated that she remains independent in many of her daily activities. She also thanked her daughter for her continued care and support.
Her daughter, Mrs. Samuel, reflected on her mother’s life, highlighting her dedication to raising her children and encouraging families to care for their parents with similar commitment.
The visit concluded with greetings and well-wishes from the Minister and family members gathered to mark the occasion.
Centenarians are periodically recognised in St. Vincent and the Grenadines through family celebrations and official visits, reflecting a cultural tradition of honouring elderly citizens who reach 100 years and beyond. These milestone occasions are often marked by family gatherings and recognition from government representatives.
