Olympians Shafiqua Maloney and Handal Roban will spearhead St Vincent and the Grenadines’ five-member athletics team at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, later this month.
Team Athletics St Vincent and the Grenadines announced on Tuesday that Maloney will compete in the women’s 800 metres, while Roban will contest the men’s 800 metres.
Also selected are McKish Compton in the men’s 100 metres, Uroy Ryan in the men’s long jump and Amal Glasgow in the men’s 400 metres.
The Commonwealth Games athletics competition is scheduled to run from 27 July to 1 August in Glasgow.
Following the conclusion of the Games, Maloney and Glasgow will travel to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where they will represent St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
The pair are set to compete in their respective events at the regional multi-sport competition, which takes place from 2 to 8 August, capping a busy period on the international athletics calendar.
Maloney and Roban bring valuable experience to the Commonwealth Games squad, having both represented St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, while the remaining athletes will also be aiming to make their mark against some of the Commonwealth’s top competitors.
