Questions surround fatal shooting in Mesopotamia as police remain silent

A man was shot and killed in Mesopotamia on Tuesday night (August 4) following what has been reported as an armed robbery at a bingo game.

Information obtained by One News SVG indicates that the man allegedly robbed the event while armed with a cutlass before fleeing with an undisclosed sum of money.

The deceased has been identified as Michael Jackson of Yambou.

Video obtained by One News SVG captured the aftermath of the incident. One News SVG has also independently confirmed that a funeral home removed the man’s body from the scene.

Information received by One News SVG further indicates that the man was shot during a police operation. However, this has not been officially confirmed.

Despite repeated efforts to obtain clarification, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has not issued a statement on the incident. 

When contacted by One News SVG, the Police Public Relations Department said it was unable to confirm the matter at this time.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting, including what led to the reported use of lethal force, have not yet been officially disclosed.

The incident marks the 30th reported homicide to date, in 2026.
